Good info here even for those who are mad that they weren't invited to vend! I'm nowhere near ready, but now know some things I need to do to be ready eventually.
As a bp breeder who isn't doing shows yet but wants to start in the next couple of years, I think it would be really cool to see someone big in the industry set up and vet national or regional new breeder showcases. It would be really cool to see an entire show of new breeders and what they bring to the table. Vetting for quality would obviously be an important aspect of doing something like this.
I like the idea, but the challenge is the overhead cost. Venues cost well into the five figures to secure. Then the work and getting people in the door for breeders they aren't familiar with is a huge challenge and burden for whoever is fronting the cash. The only similar scenario I can think of is like trying to get a gig in LA or Nashville for new bands - it's the "Pay to Play" model. Essentially the band pays the club a high price to play in that venue for the exposure - sometimes in those case the band controls the ticket prices and does the marketing so they *can* make their money back - or more. It's an interesting model, but at the end of the day the money and risk have to land somewhere, and most breeder/promoters can't take that on. (I *will* say I've only been doing shows for 18 months now and I got into bigger shows like Tampa Repticon, Daytona two years in a row, and I figured out how to get a table at Tinley that is mine. It's all doable - I don't want the message from this episode to be that it can't be done. Daytona and NARBC Schaumburg & St Louis can all still be gotten into relatively easily.)
I love that you'll be vetting the venders. That sounds great.
I agree with bigger names bring bigger wallets. Business is business. In the end business is about brands and money. Keep doing what your doing Bob!

Can’t fault bob for wanting to bring in the breeders that will bring the crowd. First show and a big budget. Bet on winners!

Fantastic episode ❤🎉
The fact that there’s long waiting lists for some of these shows is proof we need other shows to choose from.
